Abstract:Negation is an important and widely -used language category. As other languages, English has many ways to express negative meanings. This paper deals with some of the major negative patterns in English like full negation, partial negation, double negation, repeated negation, and their translation. It also presents, according to idiomatic expressions in both English and Chinese, the mutual transition in translation from affirmative to negative, and vice versa, in order that the translation can express exactly the original and at the same time conform to the standards of English or Chinese language.
