Abstract:College English Writing is one of the most important courses for undergraduates of specialities other than the English language. This article, in view of the present condition of college English writing instruction, discusses the related aspects such as the purpose, contents and evaluation method of this course. Based on theoretical study and practical experience, the article suggests that, at present, the purpose of the college English writing course for undergraduates of non-English language specialities should be,first of all, to help students review, solidify and use the English language that they have learned rather than lay emphasis upon the organization of writing materials and the training of writing skills, that the evaluation of writing instruction should pay major attention to the correctness of the use of the English language, and that more teaching hours should be given to English writing for business, technical, tourist and other practical purposes.
